    What about triterpenoids and the other compounds?

    Triterpenoids are a well-known group of compounds across functional mushrooms and many traditional botanicals. In tiger milk mushroom they are present in smaller amounts than the polysaccharides, and they form part of the overall profile of the sclerotium rather than being the star.

    Tiger milk mushroom has a long heritage. It has been used by the Orang Asli and across Malaysian traditional practice for respiratory complaints for generations: a heritage of use, not a claim of treatment.

    On the modern side, a preliminary open-label study published in Scientific Reports (Tan ESS, Leo TK, Tan CK, 2021; DOI 10.1038/s41598-021-91256-6) reported improvements in lung-function markers, nasal comfort, and antioxidant status in healthy adults taking a tiger milk mushroom product over three months. It is worth being clear about what that study was: open-label, with no placebo group, in a small group of healthy volunteers, and it used a different product, so the findings are early and should be read as preliminary rather than proof.

    Separately, preclinical safety work on the sclerotium found it was generally well tolerated in animal studies, with no treatment-related toxicity observed over 28 days of oral dosing (Lee SS, Tan NH, Fung SY, et al., Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2011; PMID 21930194).
